Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan is positioning itself to become a leading regional hub for the digital economy, driven by expanding opportunities in information technology, digital services, and innovation-based industries.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of the IBI Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters in Islamabad, he highlighted the government’s long-term vision to accelerate digital transformation and attract greater international investment in the technology sector, according to the Foreign Office.
Dar noted that Pakistan’s digital economy is growing rapidly and presents strong potential for foreign investors, global tech partnerships, and innovation-led economic expansion.
Shift Toward “Intelligent Infrastructure” Under CPEC 2.0
He linked this transformation to the second phase of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0), describing it as a shift from traditional infrastructure development toward “intelligent infrastructure.”
This new phase, he explained, includes emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced ICT systems, and nationwide digital connectivity frameworks designed to modernize Pakistan’s economic structure.
Youth and Tech Workforce as Key Strengths
The deputy prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s young population and expanding technology workforce as major competitive advantages in attracting regional and global digital investment.
He said these demographic strengths position the country to become a strong player in the fast-growing global digital economy.
Strengthening Pakistan–China Digital Cooperation
Reaffirming bilateral relations, Dar described the Pakistan–China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership as a long-standing alliance now evolving into deeper digital and economic integration.
He added that collaboration in emerging technologies will be critical for sustainable growth, innovation capacity, and stronger regional connectivity in the coming years.
He also stated that the establishment of the IBI Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan as an emerging destination for technology deployment and digital transformation.
